Greece

Greece is a Mediterranean country in South-East Europe. The country is mostly known for its beaches, the many islands, the food and the rich history. Therefore, Greece is a popular tourist destination and the Greeks are very well known for their hospitality. The Greeks have a rich history and this can still be seen today in everyday life. Not only the archaeological sites, but also the authentic Greek cuisine and the holidays, festivals and many local museums shape the culture of the country.

Greece consists mostly of beautiful islands scattered in the turquoise sea. There are large and well-known islands like the popular Crete, the beloved Lesbos, the surprising Kos, the lively Corfu and solar island of Rhodes, but there are also lesser known gems such as the pristine Karpathos and the "Flower of the East ', Zakynthos. For many vacationers the sun and the sea are on top of their wish list, but Greece offers much more than that. The country has a very rich history and this is reflected everywhere. You'll find the world famous Acropolis in Athens on the Athenian Riviera and in the Peloponnese peninsula, you will find several historical monuments such as Venetian fortresses, medieval castles, fortresses and monasteries special. In sum Greece is a country filled with sun, sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, delicious food, lovely people and amazing sights. What's not to love?

Why I love Greece

My last name is Liolios, which is Greek. Although my dad now lives in Eindhoven with my mom, and my family lives in New York City, originally my family comes from Greece, namely the city of Chania at the island of Crete. My dad was born here but moved with his family to New York when he was a child. So although he grew up in New York City and they live there, when it comes to "blood" I am half Dutch and half Greek. Because of the fact that my family moved to New York (and you might call them Greek Americans) I haven't been to Greece that many times as I've been to New York. Nonetheless, I love the nature, the culture and the whole way of living in Greece. Moreover, I fell in love with the landscape, the beautiful beaches, crystal clear waters and of course the cuisine. If I had to choose one favourite holiday destination in Europe, Greece will win by far.
